Samsung showed off something called Galaxy AI at an event called Unpacked. It’s a bunch of clever tools powered by AI (artificial intelligence) to help make life easier.
One thing that got my attention is how it can help people who struggle with languages when they travel, especially those who only speak one language and find it hard to communicate in new places.
Here are three features of Galaxy AI that help break down language barriers:
- Real-time translations for calls:
- Let’s say you’re in Madrid trying to book a table at a restaurant, but you don’t speak much Spanish.
- With Galaxy AI, when you speak, it translates your words to the person on the other end of the call.
- Then, when they respond, Galaxy AI translates it back to you in your language.
- Galaxy AI remembers the languages your contacts speak, so you don’t have to keep changing settings.
- Interpreter:
- If you get lost in a foreign country, Galaxy AI can help.
- You can ask questions to locals in their language, and Galaxy AI will translate for you.
- For instance, if you ask a question in English, it will translate it to Spanish, and when the person responds in Spanish, it will translate it back to English.
- Chat Assist:
- Galaxy AI can also help when you’re texting someone in a different language.
- It can detect languages and translate your messages for the person you’re texting.
- For example, if you’re texting someone in French but you don’t know French, you can type in your language, and Galaxy AI will translate it for them.

Samsung says these features work with 13 languages, including English, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Thai, Spanish, Japanese, and Vietnamese.
Samsung says Galaxy AI is really smart, and if these features work as well as they say, the Galaxy S24 Ultra might be a great phone for me to use every day.
